Imagine being cuddled by a tropical jungle and the sounds of rushing streams with towering lush mountains in the distance. That is the eco-tourist attraction Mayfield Falls located in the Westmoreland parish. The well maintained grounds include a multitude of ferns, exotic flowers, plants, and wildlife native to Jamaica. This is only to be outdone by the refreshing waterfalls and natural pools. Visitors have the option to walk up the river, then down through the jungle on a walking path. The approximately 1.5 hour journey will require some physical exertion but the there’s lots of shade and stops along the way. You could swim through an underground tunnel, jump into the deeper pools, the sit in the bubbling natural Jacuzzi for a shoulder massage from the falls. Most parts of falls are calm but the current can vary depending on the amount of rainfall in the area.

Another relaxing activity is getting a mud scrubs that’ll leave you feeling cleansed and revived. While enjoying the falls you’ll be asked not to use sunscreen or repellent as well as wear water shoes to navigate the slippery stones. But the guides there will ensure you’re safe and have a good time. They earn from tips so leave one for their excellent service if you can. The road to Mayfield Falls is not well marked or well paved so take it slow. There is also the option to go with a tour company from Montego Bay and Negril.
