On the eastern end of Jamaica, Portland is the breathtakingly beautiful Reach Falls. Discovered by runaway slaves seeking refuge, Reach Falls is a hidden away gem about 2 km north of Manchioneal. The cascading falls tumbling down into the vibrant emerald crystal clear river pools below are surrounded by lush rainforest. A blend of hanging vines, natural bamboo and many species of plants and birds makes Reach Falls the perfect exotic eco-attraction. There is the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour through the thicket of hibiscus and ginger lilies going upstream Driver’s River at the top of the falls. While tracing the river as it meanders through the mountains and over limestone rocks, learn more about the plants and wildlife on the tour. Further up the river is the legendary Mandingo Cave.
The refreshingly cool water has a shallow area for non-swimmers and a deeper roped off section for swimmers. There is also a natural heart-shaped jacuzzi and a picnic area to complete a relaxing day.
