In the heart of Fleet Street Parade Gardens, the Life Yard concept has transformed a strip of land into a small oasis consisting of sustainable farming and sustainable development. As the first multi-cultural, eco-village of its kind in the capital city Kingston, Life Yard is breathing new life into a community considered to be a tough neighbourhood. Together with Paint Jamaica, Fleet Street is fertile grounds for educational support, homework programmes, workshops, skills training, creative expression, and organic cultivation of fruits and vegetables.
From farm to table, the café in the middle of the yard serves vegan food and tour guides are ready to take you around the community. At this point, Life Yard is not just a physical space but a movement projected to become one of Kingston’s main eco and community tourist destinations. Please note that it is important to ask permission to take photos and committed volunteers are always welcomed.
