Beyond the small courtyard at 76 Upper King Street is Liberty Hall. It stands as one of the most modern museums in the Caribbean built by the Rt. Excellent Marcus Garvey. Located in historic Downtown Kingston, Liberty Hall is a symbol black economic sovereignty and pan Africanism in the early 1900s. It also serves as the headquarters for his UNIA (Universal Negro Improvement Association). It was his intention to improve the socio-economic conditions of black people.

After many years of decay, the building was restored and finally re-opened in 2003. Decked in red, black, and green, it is a reminder of Garvey’s work and vision. A visit to the interactive multi-media museum is a highly engaging and contemplative experience. It has a fantastic mosaic wall art and several programmes that benefit the community. These include community outreach programmes like lectures, workshops and summer programmes for kids. Liberty Hall’s research library provides comprehensive information about Garvey’s achievements and the African diaspora on a whole.
