Built from mostly recyclable material Africa Village is a rustic ode to mother nature. Taking the lead role in its construction, the host, Sharon is a children’s writer and inventive artist. Her creative and artistic personality really shines through in the Mud Gallery (a traditional mud hut) at the front of the property. The art work on display in the Mud Gallery reflect her Maroon roots and travels around the world. The hand-made pieces come with stories and include framed art, jewellery, naturally-dyed fabrics, and many other uniquely crafted items. Sharon is usually around for a chat but with prior arrangements visitors can partake in activities like art and drumming sessions.
Located in former fishing village Treasure Beach, Old Wharf, the road to Africa Village is not well-paved but worth it. In addition to the gallery the property also has three cozy and eclectic round-wall guest rooms, a yoga studio, and a breezy rooftop terrace. Against the backdrop of Santa Cruz mountains the Caribbean Sea is only a few steps away.
